CHAPTER 1
"five colors can blind our eye ..." a heavy
and hoarse sound can be heard reciting a prayer.
" five colors can blind our eye ..." Following the high
shrill voice, the voice of a child who tries hard
imitating the voice can be heard.
"Five sound can make us deaf...!"the first voice was heard again.
"Five sound can make
us deaf...!" the child's repeating the words.
The sentence uttered by the hoarse voice and then
imitated by a small
child is a verse
from To-tek-keng book which reads as follows:
Five
colors can blind our eye
Five
sound can make us deaf
Five
flavors can spoil our mouth
Pursuing
pleasure destroying our thoughts,
Valuables
made us into fraudulent
This
is why the wise
Prioritize
stomach affairs
Do
not care about the affairs of the eye
He's
good at choosing this and discard that.
if these voices came from within a
religious To temple, it
does not need to be considered
because it is common that a tosu1 giving lessons from the To-tek-keng book to
his students. Or a teacher of literature teaching the book to their students.
But oddly enough, one after another two mutually voice was
heard from within a dense forest, this forest rarely visited by humans and become a den of tigers,
large snakes and
Other wild animals. If there is any human, they certainly some kind of bandits.
When we look into the woods to find out who it is teaching verses of
To-tek-keng Book to
the child's, then we would be surprised. It turns out that the
recited verses of the book is a
tosu with yellow dress,
and in his back we can see a normal
looking sword.
This Tosu is tall, thin and have thin mustache, his age less than fifty years. His hair was piled-up
and he is riding a thin horse and appears to
have been exhausted.
On the back of this horse walk a
boy of ten years old. His clothes were patched,
His hair tied back, somewhat pale with white face and large eyes. This
child wear a very poor
clothes
to the extent that he doesnt wear a shoes. Near
the left ankle u can spot some wound which made him
somewhat limping.
However, although his situation is so poor, the boy seem happy
His eyes shine and mischievous.
The verses recited by the Tosu is the twelfth verse. If we heard from the beginning the tosu
read
the first verse aloud but slowly, and the boy had long imitate it.
In the twelfth verse where there
are words of the wise person prioritizes stomach affairs, after
finished mimicked this paragraph
until finish, the boy
immediately said. His voice is loud, shrill and
high.
"Mr. Tosu, the wiseman though really make sense. I also want to be
a wiseman, prioritizing my very hungry stomach affairs . So please Mr. Tosu gave me crusty bread or
money, I do not
want to care about the affairs of another. "
As he said this, the boy was no longer running in the back of the horse,
but ran beside him while
Tugging the tosu right leg. However the tosu was like never realize the boy existence, as well as not
Realize if the boy keep tugging at his leg. He opened his mouth again
and shouted in a loud voice.
" thirteenth verse reads ..."
"I do not care what the sound of the verse thirteen or three
thousand!" The child was screaming. "My stomach is hungry and you had
promised to give me dry bread and money to me! "
The Tosu seemed stunned, as if only now he knew that the voice which had
been imitated him issued another sounds. He put off reading his book and looked
up at him with his shining eyes.
Earlier he met with the boy outside a village near the forest. At that
time he was resting and eating dry bread. Then the strange child came forward,
seems to want all that bread but didnt make any sound and only watching him eat.
"You want dry bread?"
The boy nodded.
"Heh-heh-heh, is my dry bread already depleted in those shop[?"
He asked again.
The nodded again. The Tosu becomes exasperated as well.
"are you mute?"
"No, Mr. Tosu , just dosent feel like talking."
This answer makes the tosu be amazed. Only once he met a little boy who speak
as he wish like this.
"You want dry bread and money?" Again he asked, while hop into
his horse.
The boy was nodded again.
"Good, but you have to imitate me reading the contents of the To-tek-keng
book while walking behind my
horse."
Thus, the tosu began reading the book from the first verse to twelfth verse.
This child at first very interested 's because actually this kid is an exceptional
child who read ancient books and almost memorized many books on Buddhism, at
which point he worked as a servant of the Thian-Hok-tong temple. But after
hearing about the 'prioritize stomach', then that child remember his hungry
belly and claim the promise.
Who is the child who was acting strange and in poor condition? His name
Beng San, according
his own admission. Regarding of his family name, he himself does not
know.
This child is the victim of a natural disaster, the great flood of the Huang-ho
river who had destroy his village.
Almost the entire village wash away by floods, the houses disappeared, rice
fields were damaged, even humans and animals almost all dead and washed away as
well.
This child too get carried away, but it seems God still protect him so
he got caught by
rubble and carried to the edge while fainted. This happened when he was
five or six year old.
At the moment he regain consciousness, this child was at the edge of a
forest on the banks of the Huang-ho river. he only remember that his name Beng
San, both his father and mother's washed
away in a flood, but do not remember his family name or where he used to live and
where it is located.
Beng San stranded and fate brought him to the front of the Thian-Hok-tong
temple in the city of Shan-si. He very interested in seeing the temple, it is
very nice to look at the paintings and sculptures that were carved beautifully.
Then the head of the temple, a virtuous monk, feel pity and love him and
That's when Beng San accepted as a lackey or a waiter.
The monk at the temple on average have high morale and almost all
diligently study the holy verses
. The monk got the fact that the child is a minister in the temple,
besides diligent
is also very smart. They then gave him a lesson to read and write.
And thus for three years Beng San 'stuffed' with philosophies and sacred verses.
Of course he only memorize all the essence. Let alone a kid like him, when learn
about religion, even adults rarely truly
capture the essence of it so that they can practice their actions according to
the holy verses.
After he became nine years old, Beng San start to feel not right to stay
in the temple. Several times he asked to stop, but all the monks forbid it and
they want to pull Beng San into becoming a
prospective monk. Beng San doent like it and on one night this boy ran
away and fled the temple.
He lived stranded, abandoned. Could only eat if anyone take pity and
give food
or give just a simple job then given food or money for wages.
Which is very strange in these boy, he never wants to issue a word of
begging! Perhaps he was
influenced by the lessons of the monk who expect Donation from
philanthropists, but not from begging. So thats why Beng San did not want to
ask when he saw the tosu ate dry bread, even if his stomach feel very hungry.
And who is this tosu? He Not just any man, but a man named Siok Tin Cu.
He is
leaders of religious associations Ngo-lian To-kauw (Five Lotus of To
Religion), based in Ki-lok. As
level three tosu of course his
knowledge already very high. And as a
leader of Ngo-lian Tokauw
that emphasizes the mystical lesson (hoatsut), of course he is famous as
a very dangerous character.
Siok Tin Cu invite or provoke Beng San into the woods was not without a
purpose. When he saw the boy, he could tell that this child is an orphanand and
have good bone,
Thats why he will be a perfect candidat for the experiment of his new
martial arts move. Even if this kid died no one will look for him, no one is
harmed, then he would not have to bear the sin,
This is the tosu perverted way of thinking.
Let's go back into the woods to see what would happen next. A while back
we
recounted how Beng San no longer mimicked Siok Tin Cu reading To-Tek-keng
verse,
but instead shouted to the tosu about his promises to give crusty bread
or money to buy bread.
They had reached the middle of the forest. Siok Tin Cu smiled and jumped
down from his horse. His movements were so light as if his body light as a
feather.
"Boy, since when you have not eaten?" This question is
pronounced with a very smooth, as if the
This man felt sorry and wanted to help.
"Since two days ago," said Beng San briefly, without inviting
voice for pity.
Tosu raised his eyebrows, then laughed and appeared really thrilled!
"Good, good, then your stomach completely empty. This means cleaning up in
your body and strengthen you resistance
like a man who has already practice siulian2. Good, good boy,
well, now you eat it, i want to see its efficacy " theTosu take a yellow
pill and smell rotten, "Open your mouth."
Of course Beng San unwilling to obey this command. He took a step back
looking angry and said,
"Mr. Tosu, you promised to give me a dry bread or money, why now
ordered me to eat medicine?
I'm not sick and do not need drugs! ".
